BuDa
- A personal note
After a tiresome 15 hour train journey and an auto ride we finally reached BuDa. A place which took my breath away as soon as I laid my eyes on it, the dense greenery around that surrounded the area, the cottage along with our loving and welcoming host, Savitha akka. The gushing sound of freshwater was the first thing I heard as soon as we reached our destination. As soon as I stepped foot into the stream, I felt a range of happy emotions when the sole of my feet felt the current of the fresh water. One thing was certain, I realised I did not want to leave. Savitha akka would wake us up at 6 am to fetch fresh milk from the neighbouring house after which we would proceed with our morning chores such as; Mopping, sweeping, washing vessels, and cleaning the kitchen. After completing all our daily duties we would sit down to feast on some delicious breakfast and begin our daily work such as buying vegetables at the market, taking interviews, documenting, visiting people and places, cooking food on some days so on and so forth. During our 6 day venture, I learnt numerous things and acquired so much knowledge about the people, the culture, folklore, food and clothing. a
Activities such as cooking on fire or the usage of a mortar and pestle of grinding batter intrigued me as I had never experienced them before. It was something absolutely loved and enjoyed doing. BuDa is a place of calmness and makes you forget about your city life and that's an experience one should strive towards.
